I've been doing RnD for one of my clients in the education space, they try to use knowledge tracing for an ESL learning platform and get pretty good results. We started with BKT, then trained a language-aware transformer-based KT model. We can now successfully predict 90% of future errors and the students are more engaged thanks to reduced frustration.

The system uses simple knowledge graphs and I hypothesize that  mapping prerequisite relationships across domains may help to identify root causes of learning challenges, e.g. we can tell that a student struggling with neural networks actually has gaps in linear algebra.

Has anyone had experience integrating similar approaches to higher education with complex interdomain connection and internal knowledge structure? Did it work?
