AI can be a powerful tool for young people. It can help students understand a difficult concept, practice a new language, prepare for a job interview, explore creative ideas, or learn a new skill. Because the potential benefits are so significant, it is essential that young people can access AI in ways that are safe, age-appropriate, and supportive of healthy development.
Held alongside the G7 gathering in France, this OpenAI Forum conversation will bring together leaders from government, civil society, education, and industry to discuss youth safety in the AI era, and where global coordination can help. Featuring Clara Chappaz, France’s Ambassador for Digital Affairs and AI; Chris Lehane, OpenAI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer; Bruce Reed, Head of AI Safety Initiatives at Common Sense Media; Justin Vaïsse of the Paris Peace Forum; and Dr. Mathilde Cerioli of everyone.ai, the discussion will explore age-appropriate AI experiences, privacy-preserving age assurance, transparent under-18 protections, family tools, AI literacy, and support for parents, educators, and other trusted adults.
The conversation comes as France has made the protection of minors online a key priority of its G7 Presidency, reflecting growing international focus on how digital platforms and AI systems shape young people’s wellbeing, privacy, and development. Participants will examine how governments, companies, educators, civil society, and families can work together to ensure AI helps expand opportunity for young people while building trust and safety along the way.
